It is hard to deny that presentation is a combination of integrated skills that we are not born with. Reputable speakers worldwide have to train themselves hardly before being well-known. They are not born with all integrated skills that presentations require, and they have to undergo a long process of practicing making presentation.

There are some key steps regarding to making presentations in terms of choosing topic, building the topic – content, rehearsing, adjusting speaking speed, and using appropriate body language.

Let’s now start first by the topic of the presentation. You should choose the topic that you know very well about it. Once you are knowledgeable about the topic, you can talk confidently without feeling frightened of being interrupted with some questions. After choosing a particular topic that you know well and are interested in, you should look at it thoroughly and carefully to pick up some important aspects so as to exploit. It will be better if you clarify some aspects of a problem than you cover all things related to that one. This work will create the main focus for your presentation which helps audiences to easily recognize. For instance, when you choose to talk about environmental pollution, you should go in details of a specific kind of pollution such as water pollution, air pollution, or noise pollution. It may be more effective if you exploit carefully all aspects of one kind than you go fast without any focus with all kinds. Therefore, the first steps are choosing topic and defining the scope  of your presentation.

The second significant step is to build the topic-content. You should make a list of the main ideas relating to the topic and the scope that you have chosen already, then decide on the most outstanding or most worth mentioning ones. This work contributes to create weightiness for your presentation. Normally, people are attracted by important or outstanding points which provide them things they feel worth listening. Very general or small point will easily distract your audiences. Therefore, be careful at this step.

The next key thing needed to do is to make an outline for your presentation. Put your main ideas in an appropriate order; which one is first, which is second, etc. The appropriate order make the audiences easy to follow and contributes to create a cohesion for your presentation. Remember that you should not copy or take any writing from the internet to be your presentation. There are some disadvantages to do so. Firstly, you are plagiarizing, and it is really hard to accept. To some teachers, especially foreign teachers, they react strongly against this one and they are willing to mark you zero and prohibit you from going on. Be alert! Secondly, if you take a writing from the internet, books, or magazine, you will be fallen into a very difficult situation. Don’t 100% trust anything from the internet except for you get the information from official sites. Since not all things on the internet are written by native speakers, there can still include many mistakes in those writings. Moreover, writing from books and magazine include mainly academic vocabulary, so it is hard to transform to all audience. One important thing in presentation is that you should make it simple and understandable

If necessary, you should take those writings for referencing only. Then, you have to use your own words to express the main ideas. Write you own notes in stead of a complete presentation. When presenting, you can hold this piece of notes so that you are not digressed from the main subject. Rehearsing your presentation before hand is essential. This step can help you to be fluently when speaking without many errors. You rehearse to check your pronunciation, check your vocabulary and try out your ability of making words  extemporaneous. Just rehearse, but not memorize you presentation since the audiences will be be able recognize that your presentation is memorized although you try to make it seem extemporaneous. Furthermore, memorizing before hand can loose the nature of your presentation.

The next step is to adjust your speaking speech. It is very important to do so because speaking speed can reveal your status. If you speak so fast without stopping, it can mean that you memorized your presentation, you are nervous, or you are just trying to complete this task. If you speak to slow, it may mean that you are not well-prepared for the presentation, and it can make audiences bored. Also, your voice is very important. If your speak so small, the audiences will not be able to hear you clearly, then they will be distracted by other things. On the other hand, if your voice is so loud, it can make the audiences stressful. Therefore, be intelligent with your voice and speed.

And, the last but not least, using body language, especially eye-contact during your presentations. To step forwards, backwards, smile, and use some hand gestures can help to create effect to your presentation greatly. More significantly, make eye-contact with your audiences during the presentation is especially required. Do not look outside or look at the screen or the celling only. You have to look directly into your audiences’ eyes. By doing this, you can keep your audiences focus on the presentation. Sometimes, you can ask some questions to make them more focus on your presentation.

These above things are not all, but they contribute effectively to make a successful presentation. By doing these things, you can meet nearly 90% of the requirements.
